    User-Agent:
Fixed for all users as ''Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Mxit WebBot?/1.3.0.0) Presto/2.4.15''.

The change will look as follows:

    "Opera/8.01 ({0}; MXit Mobi/{1}/{2}; U; ) Opera Mini/3.1" generally where the following:

{0} gets replaced by the client type
{1} gets replaced with the version of the client
{2} gets replaced by the version of Web Gateway

    An example: Opera/8.01 (LibPurple; MXit Mobi/2.10.7/1.5.6.591; U; ) Opera Mini/3.1

Please let us know if you any questions regarding this.

    Kind Regards,

  2. Mxit Preferred Developer Program

We're proud to announce the launch of Mxit’s Preferred Developer Program, our program to recognize some of the best Mxit developers that build custom Mxit app solutions for their clients.

We’re launching with a group of eight premier developers as our initial Preferred Developers -- it’s primarily long-established Mxit developers who have been building Mxit apps for their clients, like Bazooka Games, Harsi Games, INESSOFT, Kazazoom, NATIVE and Springfisher.

We’ve also added two new digital consulting companies who have stepped forward and committed to include building Mxit apps into the solutions they provide to their clients, namely Cytrus and Deloitte Digital RSA.

It’s inspiring to see this range of companies step building apps for their clients on the Mxit platform, and we’re glad to be providing a single Preferred Developer Program that can include them all.

And developers: if you’re building Mxit apps for third parties, and you’d like to join the Preferred Developer Program, head on over to http://pdp.mxit.com to get more information and sign up!

  4. Mxit User API: Open for developers!

Mxit is proud to announce the launch of our User API!

With the release of the User API, we're giving developers the ability to release social apps that build upon user information. In addition, we're providing users the ability to control whenever their non-public personal information is shared with a third-party application.

The User API opens up new API calls across 3 key areas for Mxit application developers to build upon: social graph, profile information, and media library.

    Social Graph: Relationships Between Users

Our social graph API calls allow developers to interact with Mxit user friend lists, and to help users subscribe to services or invite their friends. For example, an application can use this feature to display a list of what your friends are also doing in the app.

    Profile: Your Persona On Mxit

The profile API calls open up the ability for developers to view and change user avatar images and status messages, and in addition to editing the rest of the user's profile. For example, an app could sell avatar images, or offer to change a user's avatar based on their accomplishments in a game.

Media Gallery: Your Media Storage on Mxit

Developers will be able to access, organize, and upload media files to an individual Mxit user's media library. For example, an application can upload a picture into a user's gallery, or display their favorite images.

Thanks to our patient alpha testers for their excellent feedback, and we're looking forward to seeing what apps our developers build on top of our APIs! If you're interested in building a new Mxit application for the first time, visit our Developer Center at http://code.mxit.com to get started.

  5. Major Tradepost Update Coming Up

We're going to update Tradepost (which will be renamed to Shop) to a new design within the next few weeks, and wanted to keep our developer community informed of the changes. Your apps located in the "Play Now" section of Tradepost will remain in "Games -> Play Now" for this phase of the Shop redesign.

    Tradepost/Shop Redesign Changes (Phase 1)
    • Rename "Tradepost" to "Shop"
    • Refreshed graphical interface
    • Search!
    • Added "Apps" and "Games" sections to make it easier to discover Mxit applications
    • Less root menu items (Simpler navigation)
    • Users can "Share" an item with others in your contact roster
    • Users can "Respect" an item (only once per user)

To give you an idea of what the new Shop will look like, here's a preview of the new design on an Android phone:

We'll be continuing to make more Shop improvements in the future, and we'll keep you informed as these future changes are planned. Read over the changes below carefully to see what the changes will be, and be sure to post any questions to our Forum thread about the Tradepost/Shop changes.
